Crystal Ball Emoji Embroideries (Necklace and Wall Decor)

One of my favorite emoji’s is the crystal ball. Naturally I decided to do an embroidery of it!

It is done in a 6″ wooden embroidery hoop painted white. It is on black cotton using two different purples, gold, and silver embroidery floss.

I liked this one so much I also made a necklace out of it!

It is done in a 1.5″ wooden embroidery hoop.

Both of these are available in the shop for sale.

Dream catcher Embroidered Necklace (in mini hoop)

I have another necklace design in a mini hoop to share today. This one is in an oval hoop, though! I’m obsessed with these little ovals and I can’t wait to buy some more.
Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset
This embroidery is done on a white linen, that I had dyed with blue and gold acrylic paint.

You can see more on this necklace in the shop, because it is for sale!

Abstract Necklace in Mini Hoop

Lately I’ve been really getting into doing mini embroideries, and Sonia over at Dandelyne on Etsy makes the perfect little hoops for these! I’m obsessed.

For this piece I wanted to do something abstract, where I could focus mostly on the color and texture. Texture is my favorite part of embroidery and crewel.

Initially I was going to do an ombre effect in the hoop, but then it just kind of morphed into this. But I love it. You can read more about this piece in the shop, where it is for sale.

Pizza Slice Embroidery

So, what’s better than combining my favorite thing to do, and one of my favorite foods? Nothing.

I made this cute little slice of piece to go into this cute little (3″!) hoop. I used linen for the fabric, and painted the hoop black. I tried to keep it pretty simple, because I guess that has been my thing lately.

This piece is listed up for sale, and you can see more photos of it there.

Anatomical Heart Embroidery No. 2

Remember a few months ago when I made an anatomical heart patch? Recently I picked up a vintage metal embroidery hoop, and when I was trying to decided what to make for it the first thing I thought of was this patch.

The embroidery is done on white linen that I splattered with red paint.

This is the first metal embroidery hoop I’ve used, and now I’m on a hunt to find more. I like that it gives the embroidery a little bit more of an industrial feel. I like the spring, too!

Embroidered Brooch

This last piece I made (so far!) using my little hoops for The Creative Muster. This one is a 2″ hoop turned into a brooch. I decided to keep it a little abstract. I think it will go well on some winter coats to add a little color to what is otherwise a pretty colorless season.

This one is done on rust colored fabric using mustard yellow, lime green, and blue embroidery floss. I made this one as a part of a gift, hopefully they like it!

I just re-ordered a second round of these mini hoops, what would you guys like to see embroidered in them next? Remember- it can only be about an inch big!

Remember to check back tomorrow for the giveaway!

What’s New?

I’ve been a busy lady the past few weeks! I’ve managed to (finally) get myself back on track to update my shop, start my newsletter, answer emails, and sketch some ideas for new projects. It’s felt really great and I’m so happy with the direction things have been going in!
I’ve also managed to acquire some crafty treasures over this time, too!
Like these things…

I ordered a custom made stamp so I can have a label on all of my pieces from here on out! I’m really excited about this, as I was having a difficult time try to decide on how to keep my name with my work. This stamp will be put on the backside finishing of all of my pieces moving forward, hooray!

I got this HUGE (23″!!) embroidery hoop (50 cents at a garage sale!). Bryan and I were talking about doing a collaboration piece in it. We were thinking of recreating a photo we took from one of our camping trips, and using hand embroidery, needle felt, paint, and the free form sewing machine foot. I think if we can execute it properly it will turn out really, really awesome. I’m excited to start work on it!

DSCN3926 DSCN3924 My dad and his girlfriend (the king and queen of garage sales) found all of these embroidery hoops for me. Normally at the craft store these go between $1.00-$2.00 or $3.00 each. They snatched all of these up for ONE DOLLAR! One dollar!! I can’t even believe it. So many project ideas!

They also found this sewing machine for me at an estate sale. It is an old Singer, and we are guessing it from the 1920’s. It is beautiful and in such great shape! I can’t wait to try it out and see how it works. It’s seriously heavy (about 200lbs!) so it is still in their garage. As soon as we get it to my house you can be sure I’ll have more to share of this beauty, because I’m beyond ecstatic about it!

My roommate Lauren got me this beautiful succulent plant as a late birthday present. Isn’t it pretty? The best part is that it is seriously easy to care for, so I pretty much can’t kill it.

I also got my hair freshened up! This is round three of the purple hair for me, and each time I love it more and more. The first two times my awesome stylist (and one of my best friends!), Carrie, did an urban ombre with fuchsia at the tips. This time we cut out the fuchsia and just stuck with the two purples because the pink just fades way too fast. Thanks, Carrie!

What’s new with you guys?

Things to Do with Embroidery Hoops: Earring Holder

Awhile back I did a post of things to do with embroidery hoops via Pinterest. It got me thinking, and I decided wanted to make something in an embroidery hoop that had an actual use. I decided on an earring holder, I have a jewelry box but it is irritating to dig through it trying to find a pair to wear. I like the idea of having the earrings I wear the most out, so I can just easily grab them.

I decided to do with on a piece of blue felt (I bought a yard of this at Hobby Lobby and have been finding myself using it for everything), with various other colors of felt.

Wanna make one for yourself? It’s almost too easy.
“Pick a pair,”  all you do is put your fabric into the hoop, and sew on whatever designs you want. I went with a triangle pattern and a little bit of embroidery.
When I was finished with the front side, I sewed the back extra fabric to hold it tight. That’s it! It was the easiest project, but I love the way it turned out. It even looks nice on the wall without the earrings on it.

Things to do with Embroidery Hoops

I spent the entire morning in bed browsing through many pins of embroidery hoops on Pinterest. There are so many things you can do with embroidery hoops, and I want to do them all. It might be over kill- but so what, they’re all so cute!

Embroidery hoops “chandeliers?” I love this idea so much.

Mobile style!

A pillow case and an embroidery hoop…quick and easy hamper. I’m going to make one for our bathroom!

Such a great idea! Embroidery hoops used to hang jars on the wall.

If my ceilings weren’t so low, I’d totally do this.

So freaking cute!! I love the idea as using these little guys as party/wedding decor. The bottom ones are chalk boards!

What else do you use embroidery hoops for? I think I’m going to make an earring stand out of one this week!
