Needle Felted Birds

Before Christmas I made a couple needled felted birds to use as ornaments on our tree. I completely forgot about them, because I hung them in some random spot in our kitchen, so needless to say they never actually made it on the tree. It had been a long time since I needle felted anything, so I just stuck to the basics and drew inspiration from things that I’ve made in the past.

First I made this goofy little owl. DSCN2115 DSCN2122 DSCN2123 I was working with scraps for this one, but I think he still turned out pretty cute. He’s different than owls I’ve made in the past- he’s long and lean vs. short and fat.

This bird is pretty much the exact replica of the first one I ever made, just in different colors. It was good for practice, though.DSCN2118 DSCN2121 DSCN2117

I have no idea what to do with these little guys now- it seems pointless to pack them away with the rest of my Christmas stuff because I’ll just forget about them again. I was kind of playing with the idea of making a mobil…we’ll see.

Needle Felted Mushroom

The last piece that I have to share from my hand dyed fabric is done using needle felting. No embroidery at all! It’s not very often that this occurs.

This piece is inspired from a trip Bryan, myself, and our roommate took in the summer time to Nordhouse Dunes.

I didn’t have all of the colors I would have liked to of used, so I had to improvise a little. DSCN2467  DSCN2469    DSCN2473

I want to add a little more in, because I feel like it is missing something. I can’t decide what though- any thoughts?

Embroidered Character: Finn from Adventure Time

 Happy July, everyone!
Last month was my friend Francie’s birthday, and I finally just finished her gift this morning (I’m awful, I know).
It is Finn from the Cartoon Network show Adventure Time!

I’m starting another piece today that is a screen shot from an episode of both Jake and Finn, as well. You can also check out this needle felt version I made of them back in December.  Then next on the list of cartoon character duos…Ren and Stimpy…and then maybe Daria?

xoxo.

ps. Tomorrow is the last day to enter the embroidered tea towel giveaway!

Needle Felting on Fabric

After I rediscovered my love for needle felting the other day I decided to try something a little different. I had always seen needle felting done on fabric, but had never taken the time to try it myself. It was so easy, and fun.

I’m not really sure of the proper way to do this, I just kind of winged it. I did mine with the fabric in the embroidery hoop already, to keep it tight and so I knew exactly where everything would line up.

Despite Bryan referring to it as “Godzilla Bird,” I still think it is cute.

Needle Felted Woodland Creatures

It’s been awhile since I needle felted anything, since before Christmas actually. The other day I made a couple little figurines, and now I’m hooked again.

A few years ago I got a little wooden mushroom house from Salvation Army, and I decided to make a needle felt version of it.

After I was done poking away at this one, I decided to make a little deer to make it a duo.

Now I’m hooked again, what should I make next?

Handmade Christmas

I can’t believe how quickly Christmas always seems to come and go. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I figured since my blog is all about handmade, I’d share some of the handmade gifts I received this year!

One of my best girlfriends, Lauren, found this piece for me and painted the frame. Isn’t it so cute?! She also made me a patchouli candle in a little baby mason jar. Thanks, Laur!

One of the presents I got from Bryan’s parents. It is a silk scarf with needle felted flowers on it. I’m almost scared to wear it because it is so pretty! They got it at an art show, it is made by Nile Kramer.

My dad’s girlfriend found this piece for me at an antique shop. It is little owls made out of fingerprints! Isn’t it so great? I love owls, and this old timey style so much. It’s already hanging up in our apartment.

My friend Carrie made the ornament on the left. It’s a cookie cutter with fabric hot glued to the back. Such a good idea! My Grandma made the ornament on the right, it is cross stitched and then she hot glued little stars to it.

My Grandma also made Bryan and I this piece. Isn’t it seriously beautiful? This cross stitch must have taken so long, it is so detailed! This picture doesn’t even do it justice. I need to find a frame for it, and then hope that one day I can embroider as well as she cross stitches.

Did you get anything handmade this year?

xoxo.

Needle felt Earrings

I feel like I’m cheating on embroidery with needle felting lately…but I just don’t know which one I like better anymore. I’m thinking soon I’m going to have to incorporate the two into some sort of wall piece.

The past couple of days I’ve been sucked into needle felted jewelry. I made a few pairs of earrings…and I’m in love. You can expect to see earrings similar to these on etsy soon, but probably not until after the holidays. I also made a little necklace, but I’m thinking it is going to be a Christmas present, so I’ll have to share that later.

ps. I’m making a personalized embroidered portrait for one of my lovely readers and I’m so excited about it!

xoxo.

Adventure Time!

Last night I went to a white elephant Christmas party. The gift I gave was Jake and Finn from the cartoon Adventure Time (you have to watch it if you haven’t). I made little needle felted versions of them…

Now I have to make them again and turn them into ornaments for our Christmas tree!

Weekend Craftiness

This weekend I went on a crafting overload. I embroidered a towel, made a needle felt ornament, and made four pillows. My fingers are tired. I’m thinking today I need to get out of the house and get some fresh air…but in the meantime check out what I made!

Ornament:

(see more for the globe here)

Towel:

Pillows!:
(the fabric is linen, with deep brown floss. see more here.)
(brown felt on one side, bright orange cotton on the other. see more here.)
(this one turned out kinda silly, but it is sushi! see more here.)
(I ran out of stuffing, so this one isn’t quite finished yet. I stamped the green fabric with a lino cut of a mustache I did, and used white fabric paint. The back is wood pattern.)

So what did you do this weekend? I hope you had more social interaction then me!

xoxo.

ps. Majority of these are all posted up in my shop, and this week I’m offering free shipping! Code: FREESHIP

Needle Felt Holiday Ornaments

Last week I decided I wanted to learn to needle felt, so this week I did. Holy crap, I love it! It is so fun and such a stress relief (for those of you who don’t know…it involves taking a needle and stabbing felt over and over). I don’t know how nerdy it makes me sound to say needle felting is fun, but I don’t care. Anyways, I decided to make a few Christmas Tree Ornaments. I love these because they can be used around the house year round, too! I can’t wait to buy more felt and make some more.

My first one was this brown owl:
And then I went crazy…

Embroidery may have some competition on it’s hands…I may be developing a new favorite.

All of these pieces are for sale on Etsy for six bucks! I also added four other pieces to the shop, so if you like what you see be sure to check it out!

xoxo.

ps! I got these fabrics in the mail today from Sew Mama Sew, aren’t they pretty?!
