Embroidered Clutch Collaboration Piece and Giveaway

A while back I was contacted by Beth of the wonderful DIY design blog Lula Louise. She is amazing with the sewing machine, and has tons of tutorials on her blog for anything from jewelry to dresses. I was pretty excited when she asked me to do a collaboration piece when I checked out her blog and was able to see how talented she is.

We ended up deciding on a clutch, and after sending photos of our sketches and discussing color palettes via email this is what we came up with:
I did the embroidery on the outside of the clutch, and Beth did the construction and the running stitch on the inside. It turned out pretty cute, right?

DIY: Push Pin Bracelet

Today I have a tutorial for you that will be really useful to all of you sewers out there…a push pin bracelet! For a couple of years I’ve been using the same one. It is tiny, and uncomfortable. The band was made of plastic, dug into my skin, and never stayed on. I finally decided it was time to make a new one!

To get started you will just need to gather up a few supplies:
(if you don’t have elastic around you could always use a ribbon!)

Got your supplies? Now here’s what you need to do:

1. Cut out a circle with your felt for your base, and a slightly smaller circle out of another piece of felt, or fabric.

2. Cut a small flap that is slightly wider than your elastic for the back. I messed up on mine, and forgot to do this until the end. So, mine looks like a hot mess, but if you do yours in the correct order it won’t!

3. Attach the fabric to your felt, leaving enough room to put in your stuffing (about an inch).

4. Add your stuffing, you won’t need too much because the bracelet is pretty small. After it is stuffed you finish sewing the fabric to the felt.

5. Measure the elastic to your wrist to cut the appropriate length. I cut mine the same size as my wrist without any extra, because it is elastic after all. Once it is cut, thread it through your opening on the back.

6. Sew the ends of the flap together.

7. Pull the elastic so the sewed part is hidden behind your flap of felt.

And you’re done! Now you’re ready to sew in style, and comfort.

Embroidered Goodness: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros & A Giveaway! [CLOSED]

You know those songs that you literally feel like you can listen to over and over again, and never get sick of? The song Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is one of those songs to me. They have the best voices, and together they sound so perfect. I swear every time you listen to it you hear something new.

 Recently I, of course, decided to do an embroidery from the song including some of my favorite lyrics.

 Last year my boyfriend, Bryan, made some illustrations of super soakers, and I really loved them. A couple of weeks ago I found out that he had turned some of them into patterns. Here is an example of one:
 I’m thinking I’m going to have to pop over to spoonflower and print off some fabric of them. It’s perfect for the summertime! Thoughts on what I should make with it?

Embroidered Character: Finn from Adventure Time

 Happy July, everyone!
Last month was my friend Francie’s birthday, and I finally just finished her gift this morning (I’m awful, I know).
 It is Finn from the Cartoon Network show Adventure Time!

I’m starting another piece today that is a screen shot from an episode of both Jake and Finn, as well. You can also check out this needle felt version I made of them back in December.  Then next on the list of cartoon character duos…Ren and Stimpy…and then maybe Daria?
